When the ancient sage crossed from China

There is a story that when the ancient sage of Cha'n Buddhism crossed from China into India, the border guards forced him to write his philosophy into a book before he crossed over.  They feared his legacy would be lost to them.  My heroes are the Buddha, Socrates, and Jesus.  There is no record of them every having committed anything to writing.  Perhaps in their traditions, the ancient sage completed his task of writing by stating that all wisdom is taken to the grave, the rest is written in this book.  Again, it is said of some Inuit that the sage who is most esteemed is the one who allows another to discover their own wisdom.  Of this poem, I will honour the tradition of those mystics who would preserve truth by saying nothing.

Gethsemane

It is time now.  The peace I feel

Assures me it is so

I will never be the same

For now I do not think, or dream,

I know,

Questions, steeped in answers,

Struggle, time and space...

I lay these down before the gate

And enter in this place.
